Purpose of Outdoor/Overnight Trips
Outdoor/Overnight trips are part of the Prescott Elementary School vision. There are several reasons why we are beginning to incorporate outdoor curriculum that can include overnight trips into our educational experiences:
-
To build deeper community between students and teachers
-
To foster a stronger connection to our environment, whether we’re in our own communities or in nature
-
To nurture a stronger connection to “place”
-
To reinforce and build on curricula and subjects taught in class
-
To encourage personal growth and reflection through new experiences
-
To disrupt normal routines and create possibilities for positive change
About this Outdoor/Overnight Trip
Prescott Elementary is partnering with long-time friends from ELSO, Inc., and Portland Audubon to offer an exciting overnight camping experience for our 4th grade students. Prescott began partnering with ELSO, Inc., in 2021 as a collaboration to host the annual Prescott + ELSO Harvest Party. Additionally, ELSO, Inc., offers free space to Prescott students for their spring Wayfinders Camp. And we’re excited to add this outdoor/overnight experience for Prescott 4th graders as we continue developing this working friendship.
Portland Audubon leads workshops, field trips, and overnight experiences that build nature connections with hundreds of students throughout the Portland Metro Area. They’re looking forward to collaborating with Prescott families to create a really special overnight trip at their nature sanctuary at the Marmot Cabin in Marmot, Oregon.
